FAQs
Some common dental treatments that we offer are:
General dentistry, such as dental cleaning, exams, and fillings. Cosmetic dentistry, such as teeth whitening, veneers, and bonding. Periodontics, such as gum disease management, scaling, and root planing. Restorative dentistry, such as crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays.
The most common dental concern we see is tooth decay. When sugars and bacteria break down the tooth's protective enamel, it can cause cavities that require fillings and, in more severe cases, a root canal.
Gum disease can also be a more common dental problem due to plaque buildup on the teeth and gums. We keep gum disease away with regular scaling and root planing. However, it can become troublesome when left uncared for, resulting in medication or surgery.
Cracked or chipped teeth can be uncomfortable and cause the patient to feel self-conscious. Teeth can become damaged due to a physical injury or by grinding. When this happens, we help repair the teeth and treat the issue causing the concern.
DBD Renton does not complete root canals or dental implants for our patients. Our goal is to maintain and restore the health of your teeth and avoid major dental work. We will refer you to our trusted, professional network of dental surgeons if you require these treatments.
This definition will vary slightly from each insurance provider and dental clinic, but generally speaking, major dental procedures are:
Implants Reconstruction Orthodontics Surgery Root Canals Periodontal Surgery Crowns and Bridges
Sensitivity, tooth decay, chips, cracks, or infections can cause you to feel tooth pain. Everyone has a different pain tolerance, so what may feel ‘mild’ to you can actually be a serious concern. With that in mind, your dentist should look at any toothache to ensure it does not worsen or cause more severe complications.
There are many reasons that you may wake up feeling tooth pain:
You have a cavity A tooth infection or abscess Cracked or chipped teeth Tooth sensitivity The onset of gum disease Teeth grinding Sinus infection
Don't guess and ignore tooth pain. Book in with the friendly and knowledgeable team at DBD Renton so we can get you back to feeling great again.
We recommend bringing your child to the dentist within six months of the first tooth's appearance. For most children, this can happen around the ages of 6-12 months. The first visits to the dentist for your kids will mostly get them accustomed to visiting us and looking around their mouth at the health and incoming teeth and gums and other guidance as relevant.
Although recovery time can vary from patient to patient based on the severity and complexity of the extraction(s), generally speaking, here is what you can expect:
Bleeding is controlled with gauze and should subside in less than 24 hours. Pain, swelling, and bruising can last a week to two weeks and easily be managed with an ice pack and dentist-recommended pain management medication. Depending on the number of extractions, your dentist will recommend foods that require no chewing for the first 48 hours, soft and mild foods for the next 4-6 days, and you typically can introduce more food back into your diet after that first 5-7 days.
The DBD Renton team will ensure you fully understand your aftercare instructions before your procedure begins.
When you come to see us for a checkup, Dr. Tawakkol and his team will complete the following to screen for dental issues and to assess your overall oral health:
We will review your dental history with you. Examine teeth, gums, tongue, and mouth tissue, looking for decay and gum disease. Our exams also include screening for more serious concerns. Our team uses X-Rays to look closely for cavities, bone loss, or impacted teeth. We will assess gum disease by measuring the pockets around the teeth. Next, our hygienists will remove plaque and tartar and polish teeth to help to remove staining. After the examinations are complete, the Dentist will discuss treatment planning and oral hygiene recommendations with you.
As with any type of cancer, early detection is the best chance of a positive outcome. Our team screens for cancer through a visual exam and feeling for abnormalities within the throat and mouth tissues. If there is an area we want to take a closer look at, we will complete X-Rays to look for bone loss or tumors. We will refer you to an oral surgeon or cancer specialist if something looks troublesome.
Porcelain crowns last anywhere from 5-15 years, although many patients will say that they can last longer than that. Like a regular tooth, a strong and durable crown that receives great oral hygiene will last for the long haul.
